MMBCA headquarters milk drive 2025

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIF. – (Oct. 21, 2025) Mothers’ Milk Bank California (MMBCA) and Central Coast Breastfeeding Coalition are celebrating their 12th annual milk drive by inviting mothers to drop off their extra breast milk to help medically vulnerable babies, especially those in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). For many  born prematurely or with critical medical conditions, breast milk is more than food—it’s medicine that can impact a newborn’s entire health trajectory.

Leslie Mehigan, coordinator from the Central Coast Breastfeeding Coalition encourages breastfeeding parents with extra milk to help MMBCA meet the growing need for safe, pasteurized donor milk and increase access for medically fragile babies. “In 2024, we collected more than 2,200 ounces of donor human milk, a testament to members of our community who believe in the importance of supporting the escalating demand for donor milk,” she said.

WHEN: Friday, October 24, 2025

TIME: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

WHERE: Growing with Baby
1230 Marsh Street, San Luis Obispo

The milk drive will feature free, private consultations with internationally board-certified lactation consultants and opportunities for mothers to connect with others who share the same mission. As an accredited member of the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA), MMBCA plays a leading role in collecting, pasteurizing, and distributing donor milk to hospitals and outpatient families across the West Coast and beyond.

Both current and prospective donors are encouraged to drop off milk at the event. Prospective donors are asked to complete the pre-screening process beforehand, so drive organizers can accept their milk and proceed with processing. Together, they’re building a community that normalizes milk donation as a natural and impactful extension of breastfeeding support.

Milk drives are essential for raising awareness, fostering community, and ensuring a consistent, lifesaving supply of donor human milk.

To learn more or find out if you’re eligible to donate, contact the milk bank at (877) 375-6645 or visit MMBCA’s website to make the first step in saving a life.
