Commitment to Equity and Access

At Mothers’ Milk Bank California (MMBCA), we prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging. Donor breast milk is essential for the health and well-being of all babies, and we are dedicated to ensuring it is accessible to every infant in need. Our commitment extends to both recipients and donors, ensuring equitable access to milk for everyone.

MMBCA is at the forefront of promoting infant health by providing vital donor breast milk to families throughout California and beyond. With your support, we can expand our reach, reduce disparities, and ensure that every infant receives the nourishment necessary for a healthy start in life.

  • Targeted Outreach: Reaching underserved communities.
  • Culturally Competent Resources: Providing materials and support that respect cultural differences.

By supporting MMBCA, you empower us to reach vulnerable populations, provide equitable access to essential nourishment, and significantly reduce health disparities. Together, we can create a healthier future for all infants.

A Mother’s Story: Alyssa from Los Angeles, California

“My daughter, who is medically complex, was approved to receive support. However, this support was not covered by my primary insurance. I was advised to secure a denial letter from my primary insurance so that my secondary insurance would cover the cost. Unfortunately, my primary insurance provider never responded.

Thankfully, Mothers’ Milk Bank stepped in and offered us a grant from the Human Milk Connection. This grant allowed us to receive over 500 ounces of donor milk. However, when the grant funds eventually ran out, they could no longer provide us with donor milk.”

The Need for an Annual Charitable Fund: Unlocking Health Equity

Alyssa’s story is just one of many we hear every day. At Mothers’ Milk Bank California, we are committed to breaking down barriers and promoting equitable access to donor breast milk. Many of our medical outpatients face socio-economic challenges and cannot access donor milk due to a lack of insurance or funds.

Your financial support can help us reach these vulnerable populations and reduce health disparities. Your contribution will bridge the gaps for families who do not qualify for insurance coverage and cannot afford to pay privately.

Annual Charitable Giving Program

Healthy Start Fund

Expanding access to lifesaving donor human milk for babies in need.

The Healthy Start Fund helps expand access to safe, pasteurized donor human milk for babies during some of their most critical moments of growth, healing, and development. Through this program, Mothers’ Milk Bank California helps support families and infants when access to donor human milk can make an important difference in care and recovery.

The Healthy Start Fund helps provide donor human milk for:

  • Babies with a medical or nutritional need for donor human milk
  • Newborns recovering from prematurity, illness, or a NICU stay
  • Infants needing short-term donor milk while a parent establishes or increases their own milk supply
  • Families who need additional support to help ensure uninterrupted access to human milk

Milk provided through the Healthy Start Fund is distributed based on medical need, available supply, and fund capacity.

By supporting the Healthy Start Fund, you help provide nourishment, hope, and care to vulnerable babies and the families who depend on us.
